Problem with PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN) Failing

If you are using Actinic and you are finding no payment notification coming back from paypal then you are not alone.

You are seeing PAYPAL orders are sitting in PENDING PAYMENT SERVICE PROVIDER.

We believe this is a PAYPAL problem and will be hopefully sorted shortly otherwise you will have to keep checking your PAYPAL account for completed orders.

It seems that this problem started Friday 24/09/2010 or Saturday 25/09/2010.

Actinic is using Instant Payment Notification to receive notifications of payments. You can see which IPN’s are failing or succeeding by checking your PayPal account history logs.

To see this please follow this guide:

– Login to PayPal account and hover the mouse over “History”
– In the drop down menu click “IPN history”
– Here you will be able to see which IPN script is failing
– Clicking on the “Message ID” will show the message that was sent the number of retries and the URL it was sent to

We have spoken to PayPal and then have said:-

As you can see we are sending the IPN messages to your sites and in most cases your server is responding that the data was received. I would have your shopping cart check the IPN url you see in the message id for any issues on why your site is not updating when the information is being sent.

For those of you that don’t know there is a Pay Pal site https://www.X.com where technical information can be found.

Virus Outbreak W32.Imsolk.B@mm

A wide spreading threat is currently infecting many consumers and business organisations.

The worm uses email for its initial propagation (an email which includes a link to a requested document that intrigues you to click further).

The email contains the following information:

Hello:
This is The Document I told you about, you can find it Here. <link to .SCR file>
Please check it and reply as soon as possible.
Cheers,

Once inside a computer it can spread rapidly using shared drives and removal drives.  It also attempts to spread via your own email by gathering email addresses from the compromised computer system.

Once the link is followed it proceeds to download the actual malicious threat W32.Imsolk.B@mm which infects the compromised machine.

Prevention is often better than the cure!

  • Disable network sharing and/or disconnect infected computers from the local network and Internet.
  • Block outbound traffic to the domains/ IP addresses contained in the social engineered email to prevent users connecting to distribution sites to download.
  •  Disable AutoPlay to prevent the automatic launching of executable files on network and removable drives and disconnect the drives when not in required.

Configure Google email delivery MX records

A mail exchange (MX) record identifies a server that handles email messages
for your domain. A domain has one or more MX records listed in priorty order.
When someone sends an email message to your domain, the sender’s mail server
delivers it to the first available server in the priority list. You create new
MX records, or change their priority, in order to change how email is processed
for the domain. (Learn more about MX records
and mail server priority
.)

You create MX records using the administration tools available from your
domain provider. The basic steps below are applicable to all domain providers.
For detailed instructions for specific domain providers, use the links at the
bottom of the page.

To create MX records for a domain:

  1. Log in to the administrative console for your domain.
  2. Locate the page from which you can update the domain MX records.
    You may
    need to enable advanced settings.
  3. Add an MX record for the email server.
    Enter the fully qualified server
name, such as ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. Many domain providers also require a trailing
period at the end of the server name.
(Learn more about the MX record details
    for the Google Apps email
    servers
    .)
  4. Set the priority for the record.
MX records with a lower number have
higher priority than MX records with a higher number. Different domain hosts use
different priority numbering systems. Regardless of the system, the important
fact is the relative priorities of MX records.
  5. If your domain provider enables you to set the Time to Live (TTL) value for
the record, set it to 300 seconds.
  6. To add MX records for additional servers, repeat steps 3 through 5 for those
    servers.
Give backup servers a lower priority than the primary email
    server.
  7. Delete any existing MX records, or lower their priority.
    If you plan to
continue routing mail to your legacy email server (for dual delivery or split delivery), retain the
existing MX records with a lower priority.
  8. Save your changes.
Keep in mind that changes to MX records may take up
to 48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.

If you have difficulty creating MX records, contact your domain provider for
assistance.

Configure Google email delivery

To have email delivered to your users’ Gmail inboxes, you need to update your
domain to route email messages through the Google Apps mail servers. To do that,
you use the administration console for your domain to create mail exchange (MX)
records that point to the Google Apps mail servers.

Don’t want to deliver email directly to users’ Gmail accounts? Email delivery options describes more
advanced forms of delivery.
